Always the Understudy isn’t your run-of-the-mill hardcore band. Though they have been influenced musically by The Devil Wears Prada, Of Mice and Men, Memphis May Fire, and For Today, what they are truly backed by isn’t music at all.

The band says they are fueled by imagery and faith.

“I love imagery and was determined to find a name that wasn’t like any other,” said vocalist Neth Maison. “As this band is based on Christian standpoint, I thought that we are to be the understudy of our lord and savior. The Bible states that we are to strive to be Christlike (the actual definition of the word Christian), and we wanted a name that would remind us no matter how far the band goes, we are in it for one reason: to spread the word of God to as many people that will listen."

Made up of Neth Maison, Nick Vanornum, Travis Carp,Glen Morse, and Jose Garcia, Always the Understudy was formed nearly two years ago.

“After discussing the possible direction of Always the Understudy to Glen, we began to focus fully on the project in our home studio,” Maison said. “We wanted to make a band built on Christian beliefs. We wanted to create a meaningful and sincere way to spread our beliefs while doing what we love. After writing 2 1/2 songs, we began to recruit members and eventually landing an amazing lineup full of dedicated guys who immediately became family.”
